A very nice St. Patrick’s Day was had in Clonmel where the cream of Tipperary Food and Wine held court under the Arches of the Main Guard. In the hours leading up to the parade itself, the Tipperary Food Producers Network’s stalls were feeding a frenzy of natives and tourists alike. The smell of fresh bacon, burgers and all things sweet and savory was wafting through the Vale of Honey. There was even Irish wine to be had. Well, to be exact, Irish people who make wine in France – but enough about that Red Nose Wine man. He talks and writes about himself way too much, and he went missing on the day ( around the time of the the big race in Cheltenham). This day was about the food. On show were :
The Cookie Jar
Crossogue Preserves
Crowe’s Farm
Fine Food Cashel
Hickey’s Bakery
HolyCross Good Food
Inch House
James Whelan Butchers
Red Nose Wine
Tastefully Yours
Tasty Treats
Nuala Hickey was busy showing off her new packaging for Hickey’s World famous brack. Look out for it in artisan shops near you.
Also on show were Tastefully Yours , who’s Cheeseboard Chutney is a perfect accompaniment to wines and a little cheese.
The crowds came in waves and everyone who was selling was selling out fast. The quality was assured and that meant a lot of second orders. It was great to see so many Tipperary people supporting Tipperary business in these difficult times. The path between the producer and the consumer was a handshake away and many people took the time to chat and to ask about the origins of the different foods on show. Expert artisans giving expert advice to a public that do care about what they eat. In many cases the prices are lower than the supermarkets, and the money goes straight to the supplier and back into the quality cycle.
All in all a great day out. Alone All Alone no more – the Tipperary Food Producers are united.
There were a few photos and a video captured on the day.
